Review: The Light of Day by Kristen Kehoe

About The Book:

The Light of Day is a New Adult contemporary. This is an installment in the Beyond the Horizon series, not a sequel and does not need to be read after Beyond the Horizon. Released in October 2014. The first two chapters can be read at www.kristenkehoe.com.

Cora Whitley and Jake Ferrari both have one thing in common: at twenty-two, they're learning to live again.

Cora, who was met by many in Beyond the Horizon as Mia's adventurous, somewhat reckless cousin, has returned four years later with a hell of a past, and a desire to overcome it. A year out of rehab, Cora says goodbye to her safe life living with her cousin, and moves home to the city she left behind four years ago, with the determination to build a life for herself, while making amends with those she hurt when she left the first time.

Jake is introduced as we enter into Ryan and Mia's wedding (Beyond the Horizon 1). A baseball playing, literature loving, dangerous looking man, Jake is now sidelined with an elbow injury that has cost him not only his baseball career, but his identity. One look at Cora Whitley is all it takes to make him believe there might be something else worth living for in life. When he learns that Cora is moving out of state and starting over he tags along, because worse than staying in Arizona and bearing witness to his replacement is the idea of feeling empty for the rest of his life. One thing Cora has made him do is feel, and he's ready to hold onto that.

Follow Cora and Jake as they battle personal demons, and discover new passions that just might change their lives.

Includes mature content.

My Review:

The Light of Day: A Beyond the Horizon NovelThe Light of Day: A Beyond the Horizon Novel by Kristen Kehoe
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Light of Day by Kristen Kehoe is a stand-alone, new adult, romance novel. While the story is complete in and of itself, it directly ties in to a previous book of the author's, Beyond the Horizon. The main couple in that novel are the close friends of the main characters in this book.

Let me preface this by stating just how much I enjoyed this story. It was not an angst ridden story simply for the sake of being angst-filled. It was genuine and pure and a real pleasure to read.

Cora is a recovering alcoholic/sex-addict. When life went bad for her she would resort to partying, drinking, and numerous one-night stands. SHe has cleaned up her act and is working on her outlook on life when she leaves San Diego for a visit back home to Arizona for her cousin (and best-friend) Mia's wedding. While there she meets Jake.

Jake is the best friend of Ryan, Mia's husband-to-be. He has recently suffered a possible career-ending injury to his elbow. His hopes and dreams are in the toilet and despite being told repeatedly that chances are good he'll fully recover after the surgery and rehab he has lost all hope.

It turns out, all Jake needed was to lay eyes on Cora. From the first moment he laid eyes on her he knew she was his saving grace, the light in his darkness. Cora, however, is nowhere near convinced.

The friendship that blooms between these two as a result of Cora refusing to date him is precious and wonderful and amazing. I know, I'm gushing, but this book just had ALL the feels and I loved it!

About The Author:

Mom, Wife, Coffee Addict, and Book Lover
I am a writer of YA/NA contemporary novels.  I write about those crazy ages of 18-23 because there is nothing scarier than being told to grow up and decide what to do with your life and who to be so suddenly.  I write about love because it’s my belief that love, in one form or another, saves us all at some point in our lives.  I am married to a man who understands and believes in me, and mother to a beautiful baby girl and a neurotic Great Dane Puppy.
