Playing songs, playing for keeps…Playing for Love at Deep Haven
My Review:
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Playing for Love at Deep Haven by Katy Regnery is the first book in her Enchanted Places series.
Violet and Zach are best friends in college. Each one inspires the other. His music inspires her poetry and her poetry inspires his music. It's only a matter of time before they fall for each other. Things don't go very smoothly after Violet professes her love and nine years later is still dealing with the scars that Zach's walking out on her left on her heart.
Zach has only ever loved one woman and was too stupid to realize it until it was too late and she had already moved on. Now he feels like a sell-out and is taking a break to follow his dream. Little does he realize that his dream has been double booked into the same vacation house as him and after nine years he may get a chance to set things right.
A beautifully written tale of love and loss and overcoming past hurts. Both characters were given such depth and feeling AND they had some steamy love scenes. You won't find this girl complaining. I'm curious to see how Zach's twin sister Cora's story plays out in the next anticipated book in this series Restoring Love at Bolton Castle (Enchanted Places #2).
No one came closeto the place she still occupied in his heart, and sometimes, when her voice echoed in his head, the sudden burst of agony-of regret-could take his breath away. Angry songs came easily. Fury came easily. Sad came easily, but he hated sad.
Sad was weak and useless and he refused to write it.
As for beauty? Zach scoffed. Beauty felt impossible.

About The Author:
Katy Regnery, winner of the 2013 NECRWA First Kiss and 2013 Maine RWA Everything But the Kitchen Sink contests, has always loved telling a good story and credits her mother with making funny, heartwarming tales come alive throughout her childhood. A lifelong devotee of all romance writing from Edwardian to present-day, it was just a matter of time before Katy tried her hand at writing a love story of her own.
As it turned out, one love story turned into a series of five Heart of Montana romances, following the love lives of the Yellowstone-based Lindstrom siblings. In addition to small-town contemporary romance, Katy is presently writing a paranormal romance that takes place in northern New England and the forests north of Quebec.
Speaking of forests, Katy lives in the relative-wilds of northern Fairfield County, Connecticut where her writing room looks out at the woods and her husband, two young children and two dogs create just enough cheerful chaos to remind her that the very best love stories of all are the messy and unexpected ones.
