Blog Tour: Entangled Embrace: Sneaking Candy & Forged By Fate
About The Books:
Author: Lisa Burstein
All I ever wanted was to make a name for myself as Candice Salinas, creative writing grad student at the University of Miami. Of course, secretly I already have made a name for myself: as Candy Sloane, self-published erotic romance writer. Though thrilled that my books are selling and I have actual fans, if anyone at UM found out, I could lose my scholarship…and the respect of my faculty advisor, grade-A-asshole Professor Dylan.
Enter James Walker, super-hot local barista and—surprise!—my student. Even though I know a relationship is totally off-limits, I can’t stop myself from sneaking around with James, taking a few cues from my own erotic writing…if you catch my drift. Candy’s showing her stripes for the first time in my real life, and I’ve never had so much fun. But when the sugar high fades, can my secrets stay under wraps?
Sneaking Candy by Lisa Burstein
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
Sneaking Candy by Lisa Burstein is a quirky tale of a serious literary student, Candice leading a double life as an erotic romance author by the name of Candy Sloane.
Candy's bestie and room mate Mandy are the inspiration for many of the technical aspects of the erotic novels but it's not too long before Candy finds herself desperately wanting to learn new things (and take plenty of notes) with her new "friend" James.
A fun novel filled with the current happenings in todays self-publishing community. Mentions of bloggers, facebook, tweeting, book conventions etc. As a blogger and an avid reader of indie & self-published authors I got a kick out of all the shout-outs.
As far as the actual plot... there's a boy and a girl, they shouldn't be together but really want to be, there's an adversary thats trying to ruin the heroine's life/career, and most importantly, there's a Happily Ever After.
Lisa Burstein is a tea seller by day and a writer by night. She received her MFA in Creative Writing from the Inland Northwest Center for Writers at Eastern Washington University. She is the author of Pretty Amy, The Next Forever, Dear Cassie and Candy, Stripped. As well as a contributor to the upcoming essay collection, Break These Rules: 35 YA Authors On Speaking Up, Standing Out, and Being Yourself. She lives in Portland, Oregon with her very patient husband, a neurotic dog and two cats.
He’s waited more than 900 years to love her…
Being the Gatekeeper to Hades is no small feat, and waiting almost a millennia to meet your mate is damn near impossible. But Theo Bradford’s mark has finally surfaced on his intended. Now all he has to do is find her and convince her to embrace her supernatural heritage.
Young genius, Sadie Nowland, has got life figured out. Graduating college at the age of eighteen and accepting a six-figure job is just what she needs to prove she’s made something of herself. But when a strange tattoo mysteriously appears on her shoulder and Theo starts talking about Mates, it catapults her neatly laid out life into chaos.
Somehow a vicious demon banished to Hades defies Theo’s vanquish and returns, setting his target on Sadie, and she is thrust into the volatile world of Shomrei warriors and a connection to Theo her brain can’t comprehend and her body can’t deny. That primal bond proves more imperative to their survival than either could have ever imagined—and just may be the key to the world’s survival.

Garrett wants more from the elusive temptress than a casual affair, but he never expects it to come in the form of an unexpected pregnancy. Review: Playing The Part
Playing the Part by Robin CovingtonMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Well, I went to all this trouble to put together a collage of who I thought Mick would be...onlyand saw that I'm not the only one who chose Jesse Williams. Sigh!

Oh well, great minds and all that jazz!
If you have been reading any of my reviews you may notice a pattern. There has not been one book yet from Entangled Publishing's Brazen line that I haven't at least 3-starred and usually 4-star. One publishing company, many different authors, many different story lines and types. Well done! Well done!
Playing the Part by Robin Covington is a romance story about a publicity-shy author trying to recover her reputation and career and a picture-perfect action-hero who is trying to take his career further but doesn't realize his road-block is himself and his lifestyle. Piper has been enlisted to "coach" Mick Blackwell on how to BE the hero of her novel made movie. Piper knows nothing about acting or coaching, and almost as little about love. After being burned by her ex-fiancee and the press almost a year ago she has no desire to get embroiled in anything bordering on romantic. Mick is 100% on board with this plan. He has never had a relationship or been in love, that is, until he is. Piper brings him to his knees is this snappy, funny story about love and fame and the downfalls of being in the public eye.

Review: The Blood Code
The Blood Code by Misty EvansMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
I love it!
Secret CIA spies and Russian princesses!?!
Feisty and capable Russian Princess!
I read this book before I realized it was fourth in a series. I don't think it took anything away from this story not having read the first three. I believe they were each about different characters within a central group of people.
Anya is a Russian Princess with a problem and Ryan Smith is the CIA operative she finds to help her rescue her kidnapped Grandmother.
I enjoyed the fact that she was not completely helpless, that she had self-defense skills, and super-secret-spy skills even though she is a scientist by trade. Ryan also liked these traits very much.
A great story that made me miss one of my favorite TV shows (ALIAS) just a little less. Not so heavy on the detailed steamy scenes, but still gives good butterflies.

Review: Don't Bite The Bridesmaid

Don't Bite the Bridesmaid by Tiffany Allee
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
Don't Bite the Bridesmaid by Tiffany Allee is an adorable romance about a human woman and a vampire man stumbling through awkward situations, dire circumstances and true love. Even with my busy schedule I read this in one day. It was that entertaining.
Alice desperately needs a "date" for her sisters wedding. Not just any normal wedding, a week long event on a cruise ship. She summons the courage to ask her gorgeous next door neighbor, Noah, who just happens to be a vampire in need of a getaway. A little pressure here and some persuasion there and they are now on a cruise ship under the scrutiny of Alice's entire family. With quite a few obstacles thrown their way they still manage to fall for each other.
What I liked best was that she was dateless because she didn't want to waste time on dating after her last disastrous relationship, NOT because she couldn't find a boyfriend.**SPOILER** Also, she ALREADY figures out he is a vampire before he gets around to telling her. I like that it doesn't take her completely by surprise. That she is a little more savvy of the paranormal than a helpless damsel.**END SPOILER**
I have not yet read one book from this publishing group that I haven't enjoyed. Obviously some more than others, but they are all fun reads that leave you feeling warm and fuzzy with the happily ever afters.
I'd love to hear more about Noah's vampire friends Charles and Alex in the future.

Review: Talking Dirty with the CEO
Talking Dirty with the CEO by Jackie AshendenMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Talking Dirty with the CEO by Jackie Ashenden is set in New Zealand.
I don't think I have ever read or seen anything based in New Zealand. That alone was kinda cool.
Christie St. John is an awkward heiress who is more comfortable listening to goth metal, playing video games and tinkering with gadgets and technology and writing about it, than doing ANYTHING at all to do with being social.
Joseph Ashton, CEO of his own technology company, was in the right place at the right time to accidentally catch the tail end of an online chat involving Christie (AKA Naughtygirl25) and Ugg boots and sheepskin rugs and garter belts!
The thing I liked about this story is it left much of the hottest action to your imagination but gave you enough to go on to get there. Joseph has ADHD and considers it a major fault. One he thinks excludes him from being anything permanent in people's lives. But as he falls for our heroine, he forgets about his faults and becomes the man we (the reader) already can see he can be. He also empowers Christie to be stronger and more self assured. Not sure how I feel about it taking a man to give her self value, but it's fine in a fictional romantic setting.
Overall this was a fun read.
Releasing her nipple from his mouth, Joseph ignored her moan of protest as he raised his head. "I want you," he murmured roughly. "Here. Now. Right Now"
Her eyes were glazed, her face flushed. She nodded. Then took a fistful of his T-shirt, pulling him back to her. Thank God.

Review: Tall, Dark, and Divine
Tall, Dark, and Divine by Jenna BennettMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
Bagging a Greek God!
What a series title! and where can I get one? (Greek God, not title)
What a cute story. It seemed a little short, or thin. More like a Novella than a novel. But then I have also been reviewing a knitting book in between reading and all the stopping and starting is not ideal at all. So I am blaming the sock I'm knitting!
Eros A.K.A Ross is the Greek God of love (bow & arrow and all) and he falls for Annie.
Annie is a baker at a dog bakery. She views herself as a bit too short and a bit too fluffy.
Ross loves her soft curves and beautiful breasts.
Ross has sworn off mortals because his ex-wife was a mortal and screwed him over.
Annie doesn't think Ross is Interested and wants Harry - He's more her elague.
Harry wants Brita.
Brita wants Dion.
Dion wants Ari.
Are you still with me?
Ross is hot, the story is cute, and I really want to know what the deal is with Ari and Dion.
So, when does the next one come out?
Definitely not a nail biter or one to RAVE about, but I enjoyed this book.

Review: Skin In The Game
Skin in the Game by Jackie BarbosaMy rating: 4 of 5 stars
Skin in the Game by Jackie Barbosa is a Play Action novel (first in a series?) about Angela Peterson and Cade Reynolds. Cade is an NFL football player who has been out due to injury over the past two years he comes back to his hometown in Minnesota to help coach his old High School football team.
Angela is a football strategist genius. She has loved football since she was little and sat on her dads lap every week watching football together. She is not only a mathematics teacher at the high school, but also the head coach of the football team while the regular coach is out on medical league.
They run into each other at a coffee shop and so begins their turbulent interactions.
I liked this book very much. I don't really care about football either way, but this isn't a romance book about football, it's just a romance book about people and they happen to be all about football.
It was nice seeing a female being successful and dominant in an almost completely male role. It also showed the typical jackass responses from small minded sexist co-worker. It wouldn't be believeable if there wasn't at least one jackass.
She wouldn't lie to herself. There was no future here. This could only turn out one way - badly. And she couldn't bring herself to give a damn.
It was the kiss she'd waited for all her life - an exquisite blend of give and take, of hard and soft, of sweet and dirty. Everything she'd ever dreamed a kiss could be, and yet nothing she'd ever imagined in her wildest fantasies.

Review: Wife in Name Only

Wife in Name Only by Hayson Manning
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
This book is about an estranged married couple who are reunited after a year of complete separation.
The wife (Zoe Hughes) has a honeymoon resort (purchased after she fled L.A. and her marriage) on an island in the archipelago (a chain, group or cluster of islands) of Tonga and has everyone (honeymooners etc) convinced that her and her husband are still very much together and in love. A large travel magazine contacts her, they want to do an article on her resort and her successful, loving marriage "Oh crap Sacks:
Zoe calls her husband (Rory Hughes (Being a Doctor Who fan I loved the name Rory being used)) and awkwardly requests his presence at the resort. Rory, somewhat begrudgingly acquiesces. And so begins the tale...
We get both perspectives throughout the book on the rise and fall of their marriage, where they are in their lives right now, who they are, and how they feel. We notice right away that they are still very, very much attracted to each other. Their physical (read as: Sexual) chemistry is off the charts. If only they can get their heads in order.
It's a love story with a twist here and a turn there and (thankfully) a HEA.
In general, I liked this book very much. I have a preference for the easy reads that do not have too much heartache and angst. Don't get me wrong, I like the angsty ones too, but I choose depending on how my day/week is going. As I am not that geographically minded I did have to look up a few things along the way about Tonga, but while this can be a little tedious, it is also a chance to learn something new. Overall, A Great read!
