Control by Laura Marie Altom is the firsdt book in her Shamed series. It is a powerful, twisted tale of a marriage gone wrong, a woman on the run, and a man who meets the one person he can be himself with. That is until all her issues start shutting her down time and time again.
Ella is two states away from her abusive ex-husband Blaine and is living under an assumed name. Working at the snack bar at Wal-Mart she encounters a stranger one day that starts to wake her soul up from the slow death it's been dying.
Liam is stuck in a small town waiting for repairs on his transportation so he is "fitting in", wearing Wal-Mart purchased plaid shirts and jeans until the repairs are done, staying at a local motel. When he meets Ella at the Wal-Mart snack bar he is enthralled and captivated. A later run in between them at a bar is explosively hot until Ella has a melt down in the parking lot. Naturally Liam launches into protective mode and the bonding between these two very damaged people begins.
I couldn't put this story down. It was captivating. To see Ella slowly stepping out of her shell, to feel Liam's frustration every time she slunk back in. We are not only dealing with one damaged person, they're both broken. They both are easily wounded and while Liam appears to be the stronger of the two, that power shifts back and forth between them.
This isn't yet a happily ever after, there is a cliff-hanger ending that will leave you chomping at the bit to get your fingers on the next book. Have no fear though, it's being published and is expected out in December... Possess
