You’re not supposed to want the one who torments you.

When my stepbrother, Elec, came to live with us my senior year, I wasn’t prepared for how much of a jerk he’d be.

I hated that he took it out on me because he didn’t want to be here.

I hated that he brought girls from our high school back to his room.

But what I hated the most was the unwanted way my body reacted to him.

At first, I thought all he had going for him were his rock-hard tattooed abs and chiseled face. Then, things started changing between us, and it all came to a head one night.

Just as quickly as he’d come into my life, he was gone back to California.

It had been years since I’d seen Elec.

When tragedy struck our family, I’d have to face him again.

And holy hell, the teenager who made me crazy was now a man that drove me insane.

I had a feeling my heart was about to get broken again.

Stepbrother Dearest is a standalone novel.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Stepbrother Dearest by Penelope Ward is AWESOME! The End!

JUST KIDDING...I definitely have more to say about this masterpiece.

I am, however, suffering from what is quite possibly one of the worst book hangovers I have had this year, and possibly ever.

The characters (Elec & Greta) are deep, wonderful, snarky, and perfectly imperfect.

The story is different, intriguing, refreshing, emotional, but has (thank goodness) a Happily Ever After in store for each of the characters.

Greta is eagerly awaiting the arrival of her Stepbrother, Elec. He's staying with them for their senior year in high school as his mother has taken an art job in London. When Elec shows up, however, not one single thing goes as planned. He is not eager or happy to be there. He is also very different from what she expected, even with her step-father's description of him. Tall, built, tattooed... and very aggressively obnoxious. Let's not even get started on his smoking habit.

Greta's determination to be nice to him regardless of how he behaves should work right? Eventually wear him down. Well, this is where we find out exactly who is more stubborn and less likely to throw in the towel.

I hate to give away any plot points that aren't already hinted to in the synopsis/blurb so I'll leave you with this...

I could NOT put this book down. It consumed my thoughts when I was not reading it and every spare moment I had was spent devouring the next page. This is the first book I have had the opportunity to read from Penelope Ward and it has blown me away. Blown away!

I never had a problem with the way you look at me. My issue is the way it makes me feel when you look at me: things I'm not supposed to feel, things I can't let myself feel for you. At the same time...nothing felt worse than when you stopped looking at me, Greta.
