Hockey star Alexander Crossman has a reputation as a cold-hearted player on and off the rink. Pushed into the sport by an alcoholic father, Alex isn’t afraid to give fans the proverbial middle finger, relishing his role as the MVP they love to hate. Management, however, isn’t so amused. Now Alex has a choice: fix his public image through community service or ride the bench. But Alex refuses to be molded into the Carolina Cold Fury poster boy . . . not even by a tempting redhead with killer curves.

As a social worker, Sutton Price is accustomed to difficult people—like Alex, who’s been assigned to help her create a drug-abuse awareness program for at-risk youth as part of the team’s effort to clean up his image. What she doesn’t expect is the arrogant smirk from his perfect lips to stir her most heated fantasies. But Sutton isn’t one to cross professional boundaries—and besides, Alex doesn’t do relationships . . . or does he? The more she sees behind Alex’s bad-boy façade, the more Sutton craves the man she uncovers.

My Review:

Alex (Cold Fury Hockey, #1)Alex by Sawyer Bennett
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Alex by Sawyer Bennett is the first book in her new series Cold Fury Hockey. Cold Fury is a North Carolina Hockey Team that has a bevy of HOT players, this book focuses on their MVP (Most Valuable Prick) the guy the fans love to hate. He's the best player on the team but the least sociable. The team owners decide to force Alex's hand in an attempt to make him less of a PR nightmare and he finds himself part of a drug reach out program and under the supervision of one of the centers counselors.

The counselor in question is the well-adjusted Sutton. Not what Alex expected and the attraction between them is instant. Sutton doesn't WANT to cross any lines into the land of unprofessional behavior but the more time she spends with Alex, the more likeable he is and the stronger the attraction grows.

Their relationship moves quickly and hotly into something really beautiful. This story deals with drug abuse and the effects a parents abuse can have on children. It also shows two different ways of dealing with it: Alex whose alcoholic father was a task-master in Hockey training and showed him no love and abused him with late night practice drills and left bruises where they wouldn't be seen. Then there's Sutton whose father was a meth addict and her and her mom ended up in a shelter when she was 8 or 9, then Jim-Dad came along and their life was happier and healthier. Alex is anti-social and often rude and Sutton is well-adjusted and works in a field where she can help other people experiencing the same things she did.

Sawyer is an instant buy author for me. If she releases a book, I buy it. No questions asked - I haven't read one of hers yet that I did not love and Alex was no different. Garrett is up next and I can't wait to read his story.

About The Author:

USA Today Best-Selling author, Sawyer Bennett, is a snarky southern woman and reformed trial lawyer who decided to finally start putting on paper all of the stories that were floating in her head. She is married to a mobster (well, a market researcher) and they have two big, furry dogs who hog the bed. Sawyer would like to report she doesn’t have many weaknesses but can be bribed with a nominal amount of milk chocolate.
