I’m reaching for a napkin when I see that Jai is on the other side of the table, helping himself to a generous portion of the oysters.
“You know what they say about oysters,” he says. I pretend I didn’t hear him, but when I look over, he’s staring right at me.
“What?” I hiss. “You think you’re being clever? You think you’re going to impress me with that totally unoriginal line, like I’ve never heard that oysters are an aphrodisiac? That’s not why I took some—I happen to like how they taste very much and as a poor college student, I can’t afford to eat like this!”
He’s still staring. At my chest. Then the smirk returns. “Might want to pull up that dress, Janet Jackson.”“What?” I look down. My left breast has completely popped out of the top of the dress, my nipple there on full display for anyone who happens to be looking. “Shit!” I try to stuff myself back in the dress, dropping the plate of salad and oysters in the process. “Fuck!”“You know, they’ve got things you can paste on in these sorts of situations.” He reaches over and picks up the wayward oysters and puts them back on my plate.“I’m not eating those,” I say. “I need to talk to you.”I wriggle my shoulders and try to get myself as secure in the dress as I can before I hurry around to the other side of the buffet table. “I need to talk to you over here.” We go to the back of the restaurant, near the hallway to the bathroom, and I strategically place myself behind one of the columns that keeps us partially obscured from the rest of the restaurant.“Imagine meeting you here,” Jai says, a slow grin spreading across his face. “I really had no idea. No idea at all. I knew I was going to be getting some stepsisters out of this blessed union, but I really had no clue—”“Are you fucking kidding me? You expect me to believe that? You’re a fucking dog. A total fucking asshole.”“I really do like the scarf. And the dress, too. You should’ve left the tit out. You’ve got great tits, you know.”“I do NOT want to talk about my tits!”“That’s certainly not the tune you were singing last night.”“Do you realize how not funny this is? The basic premise of the story is this...
Megan and Emma are best friends. Emma has been single for six months after her long-time boyfriend dumped her AFTER he was found to have been cheating on her constantly. Megan thinks enough time has passed and that Emma should get back on the horse (figuratively speaking of course, this is NOT THAT type of book!).
Megan has already created Emma's profile on an online dating site and after a glass or more of wine convinces Emma to go on a date. They set up the date, go to the hotel where they are meeting the guy, and I say they because Megan is not only moral support but also personal security until Emma deems her as not-needed. Date goes well, guy is hot, British, and funny.
Megan leaves, more alcohol is consumed and Emma has a fantastic and sex-filled nite with Jai. The next morning, well, I can't read the book for you...things get squirrely and Emma leaves in a huff.
But WAIT - it's titled STEP F*@k, when does that come into play? Well, as stated in the blurb, their parents are getting married - to each other - and Jai is in town for said wedding. Let's just say the pre-wedding festivities are fraught with drama and surprise occurrences ;-)

Book two opens with a hangover from hell and some major misunderstandings. Despite having had the best sex of her life, ever, Emma is disgusted with Jai and is glad she will never see him again. Shame she cannot stop thinking about him though.
Likewise, Jai thinks Emma is just a little bit batsh!t. He has no idea why she went crazy this morning, but whatever, he's here for this wedding and then he's back to London. So why can't he get her out of his head?
This is where the funny stuff happens. The realization of who the other one is and what that means for their private parts. Read on, it's just getting started, LOL

Girl and boy meet again and realize their parents are getting married to EACH OTHER! and their private parts just did what last night? Ewwww. nah, it was still hot! Girl and boy have to spend the next couple of weeks in close proximity at the family lakehouse.
Book three opens on the bathroom floor of the lakehouse with Jai and Emma's limbs entangled after a wild night of counter-sex. No, that isn't a war-maneuver, they had sex on the counter! Emma is back to denying their attraction and being determined to never let it happen again. Jai doesn't see the harm. The hell with what people think. They did NOT grow up together. They met BEFORE they were aware of their connection. If they bump privates it is perfectly okay with him.
Emma's back-and-forth attitude on their relationship is wearing thin on Jai's patience. They have a strong connection but she is too blinded by his father and her mother's upcoming nuptials to let anything develop. He never expected feelings to develop but they have and he knows that she feels the same, if only she could get past the fact they will be step-siblings soon.

But, fear not, there is a happy ending in sight. The sort for fairytales not porn movies. Head out-of-the-gutter people, geez!

Scarlett Ward is a yoga-loving, coffee-drinking writer who finally took the plunge and wrote her first book. Her own stepbrother wasn't remotely good-looking, but the one she dreamed up for Step F*@k is absolutely DIVINE.
Scarlett hates long walks on the beach. That shit is hard. She prefers laying out by the pool with her laptop, writing her next story while working on her tan.
