Transcending Darkness by Airicka Phoenix is a full-length stand-alone novel that I absolutely adored. Airicka found that perfect balance for detail in a story so each scene was descriptive enough to be complete without spending countless pages on EVERY detail. The characters were genuine, and in the case of Killian, really freaking hot! The angst and pain that both Juliette and Killian have experienced is gut-wrenching but the slow build of their feelings toward each other was joyous. Until the demons of the past take hold of Killian. Then your heart will break for what they go through.
With twists and turns that are unexpected but not convoluted this was a really freaking great book. It left me happy with the ending and while there is no book hangover I definitely wish for more perhaps about the secondary characters. Perhaps Maraveet, Vi or Arlo. ANyway - this was the first book I read by this author and I loved it and will definitely be reading more from this talented lady.
