Brock Anderson knew from the moment he met her that she was it for him. Sure, he was only eight, but she was the most beautiful girl he’d ever seen when she glared at him the first time. He waited for her, became her best friend and later her lover. Never once would she admit she was his girl friend, but that was fine with him as long as she was around. After she’s involved in a terrible accident, she leaves without a word, and he’s left wondering if waiting for her was the right move. Next time he won’t let her go without a fight, and make no mistake, there will be a next time.
Reagan Anders doesn’t let people bring her down. She lets almost no one into her quiet world because what’s the point? Everyone dies alone anyway. But there’s always been one boy who found a way past all her defenses. She knows that it’s only a matter of time before he hurts her, but she can’t help wanting him in her life. That is until she almost loses it.
After the accident Reagan isn’t the same. She attempts repairing her relationship with her father as a way of finding herself again, but he just disappoints her once more. It isn’t until she builds a relationship with a brother she didn’t know she had that she starts to feel normal again. It takes a decade, but she finally thinks she’s in a good place. Then the one that she left comes back, and the cycle starts again. Will she find happiness this time or continue to run like the coward she claims not to be?
“Good evening, ladies.” And just like that he was standing a foot away from me. He was even cuter up close. His blue eyes sparkled a little as he glanced my way with a little grin on his face. Restaurant guy knew exactly who I was. He was tan and lean, and I definitely thought he was attractive, but there was nothing. No zip. No zing. No electricity. I felt absolutely nothing for him. Huge downer. At least he was nice to look at though.
He took our drink orders and left with one last smile in my direction. When he was gone, I turned back to Melanie who was staring at me expectantly. “Well?” she asked.
“Your first interaction…how’d it feel?”
“Like I ordered a drink and want him to hurry up, so I could order some food.”
“Seriously, Reagan. You might be hopeless.”
“You might be right.”
