So, I'm not quite sure what I want to share with you today. So I'm going to start with a book I'm reading. (I know, super original, right?) I am currently reading "A Kiss of Shadows" by Laurell K. Hamilton. This is book one in her Meredith Gentry Series. Prior to this I have been reading crime/forensics and vampire romance. So this is a bit of a switch in that it is about Fey and Brownies and many other "magical" entities existing in our world and apart from it. I am about two thirds of the way through the book and am getting more curious about where the plot is going. So far I like, I'm not hooked yet, but we'll see!
02-A Caress of Twilight by Laurell K. Hamilton
Okay, so there is definitely a deeper plot that is spanning the series in addition to a main plot for each book. It seems like it takes almost the whole book to build up to the plot and then, BANG, everything just happens in the last few chapters and it's done. Despite this, I am enjoying the series enough to keep going. Listening to the audiobooks on my way to/from work does make the commute more enjoyable.
Ok - It is official, I am going to continue reading this series. The series is quite hot and an easy read. And where I find the climax of the stories a little rushed and the build up to this quite long, I am hoping that, like any other great thing, the author will soon find a more agreeable rhythm. If anyone else has anything to add, please leave a comment.
Well - Perhaps the build up in these stories is just the authors style, whatever it is, I'm getting used to it. Thoroughly enjoyed book three and now onto book four. This will put me at halfway into the series. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did.
(Just started reading - witty summary will follow. :-D )
. . . Okay, maybe not such a witty summary, but instead of getting easier to deal with, the ending to this particular book was extremely abrupt. It is almost as if the series was one big book, with many subplots, that was split and that is why the endings are abnormal (for me) I have already started on Book 5 however, so I am still "Soldiering On". Despite this, I still am enjoying reading this series and am sticking with it for more than to just see where it's going. Now on to Book 5!
05-Mistral's Kiss by Laurell K. Hamilton
Book 5 - only 3 more to go after this. Curiosity is keeping me at this series. Stay Tuned!
. . . Well, I think I was trying to read this one too fast. I feel like I missed something here. What happened to Aisling? After everything that happened, is Sholto still a friend? Onwards to Book 6 . . .
06 - Lick of Frost by Laurell K. Hamilton
So, Pardon the foul language, but WTF?!? This book is so . . . weird, puzzling, jaw-dropping, nail-biting, bizarre, confusing, weird (did I say that already?) . . . Anyway, if I say much more I'll start giving bits of the story away - and trust me, if you're even a little bit hooked on the series, this is stuff I did NOT see coming AT ALL. So, on I go to Book 7. I'm wondering just how far the author is planning on taking things in this next book. Only time will tell. Now to see just how fast I can get through this next one. Wow!
07 - Swallowing Darkness by Laurell K. Hamilton
All along I have been somewhat complaining about the flow of these stories, but I am finally used to it. It helps that the flow seems to be getting smoother and that the main sub-plot seems to have been wrapped up. Not that the story is finished, but after seven books, it's nice to have some resolution to the whole Seelie/Unseelie/Andais/Cel/Taranis issues. Also, aside from the fact that these books take steamy and dirty to a whole new level, the main characters are endearing and you want things to work out for them and so you keep on reading.
08 - Divine Misdemeanors by Laurell K. Hamilton
Okay - I am hooked and have no idea if/when book 9 is coming out. So for now I will just have to wonder what is going to happen to Merry and her twins and her six baby daddy's. Yes, that's correct, 3 dad's per baby. I told you this stuff was messed up. Its amazing how crazy the sexploits are in this series and how almost immune you get to the "Shock Factor" by this last book. Other than Merry still being pregnant, Book 8 pretty much had it's own plot from start to finish and was resolved by the end of the book. Not sure what I'm moving on to next. Probably the "Pretty Little Liars" Series by Sara Shepard.
