Review: The Secret Life of Trystan Scott #1: Collide

Collide (The Secret Life of Trystan Scott, #1)Collide by H.M. Ward

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Collide by H.M. Ward is the first book in the serial novel series The Secret Life of Trystan Scott. It is one of H. M. Wards earlier (2012) series and is NOT a paranormal romance. I would categorize this first installment as New Adult.

What a tragic, bittersweet tale, I cannot wait to read more. My heart is breaking for poor Trystan.

Mari is a Junior in high school and is charged with coaching Trystan, a senior, on his lines for the lead role in the school play. They have gotten close and definitely hit the good friends status. Except Trystan is in love with Mari, she has no clue and both their best friends are dead set against them saying anything to each other.

Trystan has a terrible home life that I'm sure we will get much more details on as the series progresses. He uploads a video of himself playing guitar and singing a song for Mari. You cannot see who it is in the video and his screen name does not help identify him in any way. This video quickly goes viral, it is a huge success. Mari is still clueless.

Oh my, I want more.

Trystan stared straight ahead, not blinking. He felt his heart shattering as she spoke, but there was no way to stop it. He let her leave, he let her walk away. She begged him to stop, to keep away from her. Trystan leaned forward and put his face in his hands, knowing he just lost his best friend.

“You’re Day Jones,” I whispered, pressing my fingers to my lips. Shock ratcheted through my body. Trystan didn’t deny it. He stood there, beautiful and devastated, with his guitar at his side.
